Delmond Smith

Delmond Smith of Almont, age 86, passed away on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Carey's Young at Heart AFC Home in Caro. Delmond was born December 28, 1934 in Ligon, Kentucky, the son of the late George P. and Martha (Maguire) Smith. He proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Delmond and the former Mae Emogene Bailey were united in marriage on September 4, 1956, and she survives. Following his honorable discharge, Delmond went to work for Taylor and Gaskin Metal, and then was employed as a millwright with Chrysler Corporation for twenty-seven years, retiring on January 1, 2000. He enjoyed gardening, golf, was an expert at being a "piddler," and loved black walnuts. Delmond is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Mae Emogene Smith; three children, Robin Bonner and husband, Ken, of Columbus, Ohio, Bryan Smith of Imlay City, Benjamin Smith of Lake Orion; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives, Frank & Pat Smith of St. Helen, Robert & Shirley Smith of Dearborn; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one great-grandson, Drake Harrison; and three sisters and four brothers. Funeral services will be held at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home in Martin, Kentucky on Saturday, September 25, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. The family will be present to receive friends at the Nelson Frazier Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Newman Cemetery in Hi Hat, Kentucky.
