Dennis W. Christner

May 22, 1952 — November 6, 2008

Dennis W. Christner Sr. age 56 of American Canyon, CA, died unexpectedly Thursday, November 6, at Santa Clara, Kaiser Hospital, due to complications while in surgery.
He was born May 22, 1952, in Pigeon, to the late Oarie & Ruth (Rook) Christner.
Dennis attended St. John's Lutheran School, Berne until the eighth grade and was a 1970 graduate of Laker High School. He also attended Solano Community College, where he received his Associates of Arts Degree.
He became a Tennis Pro in his early 20's and became a tennis instructor, when he moved to Vallejo, CA. He then took a position at CSAA as a claims adjuster, and also became a Real Estate agent, and then moved on to Farmer's Insurance, where he was self employed for over 25 yrs. He was also involved in community activities, the last being Freecycle. His hobbies included playing pinochle, reading, and he was on a bowling league. And for all that knew him, could tell you his number one hobby was, the movies. "I'm going to the show", is what you'd always hear him say.
His biggest enjoyment was helping others, he had a big heart, and would go out of his way to do a favor for someone else, and even for those he did not know. He had this quote on the inside of every book cover that he owned, which read, "I expect to pass through this world but once; any good thing therefore that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any fellow creature, let me do it now; for I shall not pass this way again." And, he truly lived by it.
Surviving are, his son Dennis Christner Jr., his daughter, Yvette West and son, Sean West; his two siblings, Joyce (Richard) Deering of Sandusky and Gary (Janet) Christner of Tuscon, AZ.; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all those touched by his love. Every. Single. Day.
He is preceded in death by, his wife, Liz Christner, his brother, Harlan, and, his sister, Shirley McGee who died one day before him.
He will be remembered at a joint funeral/memorial service with his sister, Shirley, 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 12, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Berne with interment of his cremains in the church cemetery.
Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Cemetery Fund.
