Dennis L. VanHorn of Caro, age 74, passed peacefully at his home on November 6, 2020 surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren whom he adored more than anything. Dennis was born August 20, 1946 in Caro, the son of the late LaVerne & Virginia (Weber) VanHorn and graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1964. He enlisted with the U.S. Navy shortly after, where he was a proud member of the Tonkin Gulf Yacht Club on the USS Halsey during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge in 1967, Dennis began a career as a journeyman bricklayer. He loved the outdoors and was happiest on a canoe, kayak, or just enjoying a quiet afternoon of fishing. He loved his family and friends unconditionally. Like he dealt with all experiences in life, Dennis managed his illness with strength and grace. His only priority in his final days was being around those he loved dearly. Dennis is survived by his wife, Donna VanHorn; children, Angie (Jim) Martin, Vince VanHorn, Woe Whiteside; grandchildren, Zachary Campbell (Victoria Ivey), Christopher Johnson (Faith Dennis), Blake VanHorn, and Adrianna "Sidekick" Scott; his sister, Diane (Ron) Hunter; mother-in-law, Elsie Johnson; special friends, Gordon Smith, Mike Kaye, Tom & Lisa Martin, and many friends in Homosassa, Florida. In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy VanHorn. Private committal services and military honors have been planned at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro.
