Dolores E. Caradonna

Dolores Elaine Shetler Caradonna, 85 of Pigeon and formerly of Fraser, passed away Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.

She was born January 17, 1931 at Booth Memorial Hospital in Detroit, Michigan and was brought home to Pigeon by her parents John and Sabina (Weidman) Shetler. Dolores attended elementary and high school in Pigeon, establishing many lifelong friendships. She attended Goshen College for a year and graduated from Saginaw General Hospital in 1953.

Dolores practiced nursing in the Detroit area for more than 45 years, holding positions of staff nurse to Director of Nursing and finally at Hospice of Southeastern Michigan, stating her work in hospice was "the best she ever had." After retirement and moving back to Pigeon she would say, "How many people can say they have coffee in the morning with people they went to grade school with?" She will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

She is survived by her children: MarthaLou (John) Degrandchamp, Daniel (Tonya) Nieschulz, Heidi (Chris) Pinger and Mary Jo Caradonna; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Son John Charles Nieschulz preceded her in death.

Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2016 at Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon. Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Contributions may be made in Dolores' memory to Heartland Hospice or Lake Superior State University Foundation in memory of Stephen Bell.
