Dolores R. Ewald of Unionville, age 89, went to be with her Lord on January 2, 2020, following a period of declining health. Dolores, known by many as Dotsie, was born November 9, 1930 in Detroit, the daughter of the late John & Rose (Link) Young. She moved to Caro in 1937 when her parents took positions at the Caro Regional Center, and she would later graduate from Caro High School with the class of 1948. Dotsie was united in marriage with Clarence F. Ewald on November 26, 1949 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Columbia Corners, in Unionville, and the couple has cherished more than seventy years together. Dotsie was employed at the Caro Regional Center for several years before joining Clarence to run their family farm. She was previously a member of the Wahjamega Country Church and was currently active with St. Peter Lutheran Church, Columbia Corners, in Unionville. Dotsie will be remembered for her remarkable work ethic and ability to grow virtually anything in her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed sewing, quilting, and crocheting, and volunteered those talents for local church charities. Dotsie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and loved to spoil her family with her great cooking. Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Clarence Ewald of Unionville; three children and their spouses, John Ewald of Unionville, Clark & Pam Ewald of Caro, Stephen & Dana Ewald of Unionville; nine grandchildren and their spouses, David Ewald of Unionville, Roger & Melissa Ewald of Sebewaing, Megan Bollon of Indian River, Becky & Wesley Beegle of North Branch, Luke Ewald of Cass City, Samantha Ewald of Georgia, Jonathon & Ashley Bennett of Howell, Rebecca & Michael Barrows of Bay City, Lauren & Chad Keiser of Cass City; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dotsie was preceded in death by her sister, Helen Ewald. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020 at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Columbia Corners, in Unionville with Pastor Bill Huether officiating. Burial will follow the service at the church cemetery. The family will be present to receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society.
