Donald Robert Barbret, 86, of Caseville, died Thursday, October 13, 2011 at Courtney Manor in Bad Axe.

Don was born January 29, 1925 in Detroit to the late Rudolph and Elsie (Lloyd) Barbret. He graduated from Denby High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy during World War II and the Korean War. On October 19, 1946 he married Nadene Eloise Chapman in Detroit.

From 1947 to 1972 Don worked for the Detroit Police Department, before retiring as a Detective Sergeant. After retiring he moved to Caseville. He then spent 13 years driving school bus for Elkton Pigeon Bay Port Schools, retiring in 1986. He was a proud life member of the Pigeon VFW Post #2236, often called upon to preform military honors and present the flag for a deceased veteran. He was a 22 year member of the Caseville Eagles #3690 where he chaired Monday night Euchre. He enjoyed playing bridge with the Caseville Bridge Club. He was a member of Cross Lutheran Church in Pigeon. He also enjoyed boating and fishing.

Surviving are his wife Nadene; sons Rev. Thomas (Marlene) of Oscoda, Robert (Sherrie) of Pinckney, and James (Joan) of Saline; grandchildren Jennifer (Mounim) Sais, Sarah (Yassine) Johri, Marcus and Kelly Barbret; great-grandchildren Sabreen, Jonah and Jamila; and brother Edward (Bonnie) of St. Clair Shores.

He was preceded in death by his brother Lloyd.

Funeral services will be at 4:00 pm Sunday, October 16th at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Tim Loehrke officiating. Military honors will be presented by the Pigeon VFW and Caseville American Legion. Urn interment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.

Visitation will be Noon to 8:00 pm Saturday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville. He will lie in-state one hour prior to the service on Sunday in church.
