Donald L. Carr, age 73, passed away at St. Marys of Michigan Hospital in Saginaw on Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Don was born on May 8, 1934 in Nashua, Iowa, the son of the late Lester & Maxine (Speedling) Carr. Don was united in marriage to the former Marlys Niedert on August 30, 1958 in Waterloo, Iowa. He earned his Masters and Doctoral Degrees at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1964. For the next several years, he was a professor of psychology at the University of Iowa and the University of Oregon. Don and Marlys came to Caro in 1976 when he was appointed Director of the Psychology Department at the Caro Regional Center. He served in that capacity until his retirement in 1999, as well as opening private practices in Clinical Psychology in Saginaw, Bay City and Caro. Don was an active member of the Caro United Methodist Church. Don had a unique way of connecting with people and was passionate about caring for those in need. He also enjoyed traveling, his sports car, sailing and reading about a variety of topics. Don is survived by the love of his life for nearly fifty years, Marlys Carr; one son, two daughters and their spouses, Chris & Julie Carr of Caro, Amy & Henry Wagner of Caro, Sara & Shawn Kuch of Midland; eight grandchildren, Madison, Noah and Zoe Carr; Ashley, Ben and Jake Wagner; Ava and Ronan Kuch; one sister and her husband, Jane & Donald Schmadeke of Coon Rapids, MN and several nieces and nephews.
