Donald D. Cummins

Donald D. Cummins, age 76 of Grant Twp. died peacefully at his home on his birthday Wednesday afternoon, August 12, with his family at his side after a long fight with colon cancer.
He was born August 12, 1933, at the home of his parents, the late Charles and Margaret (Stenskie) Cummings in Oliver Twp.
After graduating from Owendale High School in 1953, Don worked on the family farm.
On March 23, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sharon L. Kelley in Cass City and made their home in Grant Twp.
Don farmed all of his life, but he also worked at Walbro Corporation in Cass City for 43 years, retiring in 1997.
He attended the Gagetown Church of the Nazarene, served on the Owen-Gage School Board for 12 years, Grant Twp. Board for 8 years, was co-sexton of the Grant Twp. Cemetery since 1995 and was a former varsity basketball coach for Owen-Gage High School. In his younger years, Don enjoyed playing slow-pitch softball.
Surviving are his wife, Sharon; three daughters, Janice (Joel) Brandel of Cass City, Nancy Cummins of Gagetown and Lynn (Vince) Roy of Midland; ten grandchildren, Tyler, Kristen, Jonathan, Remington, Joshua, Nicholas, Matthew, Autumn, Gauge and Hunter; his brother, Harold (Doris) Cummings of Grant Twp. and his brother-in-law, Lawrence Summers of Grant Twp.
Preceding him in death was a sister, Marguerite Summers.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Monday, August 17, at the Novesta Church of Christ, Cass City with burial in Grant Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 4 to 9 PM Saturday, 2 to 8 PM Sunday and at the church after 10 AM Monday.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice Advantage, Owen-Gage Athletic Dept., the family or the donor's choice.
