Donald E. Damrow, age 74, of Elkton died Tuesday morning, February 19, at his home following an apparent heart attack.
He was born February 6, 1934, in Bad Axe to the late William and Mary (Blackwell) Damrow in Bad Axe.
Don graduated from Kinde High School in 1952, and was inducted into the US Army in 1954. He attended Michigan State University and was a graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking.
On May 23, 1959, he was united in marriage to Deann R. Osborne at the Elkton Evangelical United Brethren Church. They lived in Kinde for seven years while Don was employed at the Hubbard State Bank in Kinde and later in Bad Axe. In 1966, he became the AVP and Manager of the Elkton branch of the Hubbard bank and moved to Elkton. When First National Bank opened in Bad Axe, he took a position as Executive Vice President for many years. He left First National to take the same position at the Bay Port State Bank for 11 years until retiring.
Don was instrumental in starting the Elkton Civic Organization and buying the building for the Civic Center. He was a member of the Elkton United Methodist Church, past president of the Elkton Rotary Club, served on the Elkton Pigeon Bay Port School Board four terms and past member of the Scenic Golf and Country Club. Don loved spending time with his grandchildren and gardening. He was often seen working out in the yard early in the morning or late in the evening, sometimes in his business suit and tie!
Surviving are his wife, Deann; three children, Kevin (Linda) Damrow of Bad Axe, Kurt Damrow of Kinde and Kelli Alfano and her fiancée, Tom Yaroch of Ann Arbor; four grandchildren, Trista (Jason) Bucholtz, Morgan and Whitney Damrow and Sophia Alfano; a great grandchild, Kian Bucholtz; his brother, Robert (Joyce) Damrow of Kinde; his sister, Marilyn (William) MacAlpine of Bad Axe and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Friday, February 22, at the Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. David Collins, pastor will officiate with burial in Grandlawn Cemetery, Pigeon.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 6 to 9 PM Wednesday, 2 to 9 PM Thursday and at the church after 10 AM Friday.
Memorials may be given to the Elkton United Methodist Church or the Elkton Civic Center.
