Donald D. Dost, age 77, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, May 31, 2009, following a brief illness. Don was born April 10, 1932 in Detroit, the son of the late Paul & Marie (Trischler) Dost. He was raised in Silverwood and graduated from Mayville High School with the class of 1951. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1954 and honorably discharged in 1955. Don was first employed with G.M. Buick in Flint until 1957, then as a wholesale milk route man for McDonald Dairy until 1964. On September 22, 1956, Don was united in marriage with the former Sara J. Sheridan in Reese. In 1964, Don and Sara purchased Caro True Value Hardware, a business that they owned and operated until 1989. For the next several years, Don managed a fertilizer outlet in Gera for Sohigro. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, St. Michaels Catholic Church in Euless, Texas, the Bedford Texas Boys Ranch, Caro American Legion Post #7, Caro Moose Lodge #1049, a charter member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans and a former member of the Caro Jaycees. For many years, Don served on the board of directors for Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems and was a strong advocate for those with special needs. He was also an avid sports fan, especially of baseball and basketball, and loved to be involved as a spectator, player or official. Don will be best remembered as a caring man that loved people, his community and his family. Don is survived by his beloved wife of over fifty-two years, Sara J. Dost of Fairgrove; two sons, two daughters and their spouses, Paul & Joyce Dost of Reese, Jane & Jeff Clark of Colleyville, Texas, David & Becky Dost of Flower Mound, Texas, Susan Dost of Los Angeles, California; six grandchildren, Niki & Ed Kirby of Bay City, Joseph Dost of Marquette, Mark Dost of Reese, Christian and Chandler Clark of Colleyville, Texas, Vasya Dost of Los Angeles, California; two great-grandchildren, Brodie and Brooke Kirby of Bay City; three brothers and two sisters, Paul T. Dost of Caro, Harold & Joann Dost of Silverwood, Betty & Wilbur Norrington of Caro, Alice & Tim Lynch of Mayville, Duane & Erlinda Dost of Mayville and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Beedle and one brother, Charles Beedle.
