Donald J. Gordon, age 88, of Bad Axe, died Wednesday evening, November 10, at Huron Medical Center, Bad Axe.
He was born October 14, 1922 in Bold Spring, TN to the late Charlie and Lula (Sanders) Gordon.
Don grew up in Tennessee. As a teen, he moved to New York to work during the depression to help take care of his family. From there, he joined the US Army and served his country in Europe during WW II and with the German occupation. After his discharge from the Army, he worked in the factories in the Detroit area including the Devlieg Machine Company and General Motors.
On October 19, 1963, he was united in marriage to Marguerite V. Cook in Toledo, OH. They moved to Huron County, after his retirement in 1986, making their home in Bad Axe. Marguerite preceded him in death July 7, 2007.
Don loved visiting with family and friends, he enjoyed working in his flower garden and yard and was an excellent handy man, fixing almost anything. He especially loved his cats.
Surviving are his son, John Gordon of Detroit; stepson, Gerald (Catherine) Bletl of Elkton; step daughter-in-law, Patricia Smykowski of Detroit; a brother, Ed (Nancy) Gordon, two sisters, Shirley Gordon and Macey Gordon and a sister-in-law, Odie Gordon all of Tennessee. Preceding him in death a son, Ronald Gordon; a stepson, Joseph Bletl Jr.and siblings, Clarence, Ishmel, Ray and Lehman Gordon and Wilma Jean Crowell.
Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Saturday, November 13, at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton with burial and military honors in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 9 PM Friday and after 10:00 AM Saturday.
