Donald F. Hanna

Donald F. Hanna of Akron, age 74, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at his home. Don was born January 15, 1942 in Battle Creek, the son of the late Donald J. and Eunice (Yager) Hanna. He began working in the heating, plumbing and air conditioning business before going to work for the Michigan Department of Corrections in Brighton, Camp Tuscola in Caro until 1987, and retired from Camp Kitwin in the Upper Peninsula. Don was united in marriage with the former Norma Cox on January 10, 1987 in Coldwater, and she survives him. He was a prior member of the Caro Moose Lodge, and was instrumental in starting a lodge in the U.P. Don was a fan of the Detroit Lions, and enjoyed hunting, playing games on his tablet, watching T.V., especially the Law and Order series, yard work when he was able, birdwatching with his wife, and his dogs and cats, Lucky, Itchy, Charlie and Anna. Don is survived by his wife, Norma Hanna of Akron; nine children and their spouses, Anna & Brian Walters of Quincy, Jim Hanna of Coldwater, Lisa Hanna of Coldwater, Chelli & Matt Avery of Coldwater, Deborah Havlat of Livonia, Kerry & Dawn Havlat of Lincoln, Nebraska, Marsha & Tom Hartman of Akron, Kenneth Havlat of Akron, James Tolliver and friend, Julie, of Coldwater; many grandchildren, great- and great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Robert Hanna; a daughter-in-law, Donna Hanna; sister and brother-in-law, Betty & Herb Hakes; and a half-brother, John Hanna. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2016 at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Burial will follow at Demorest Cemetery in Akron. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at 2:00 p.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Donald F.
