Donald Wayne Hill

Donald Wayne Hill of Caro, age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at McLaren Caro Region with the comfort of knowing that he was loved unconditionally by his family. Don was born July 3, 1930 in Flint, Michigan, the son of Orville Hill and Therma (Patterson) Hill. He was united in marriage with the former Golden Louise Witty on January 15, 1951 in San Angelo, Texas. The couple recently celebrated seventy-one years of marriage. Don graduated from Davison High School and soon after went on to serve in the United States Air Force for six years from 1948 to 1954. He was honorably discharged as a Tech Sergeant. Don was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church. He owned Hills Grocery Store for eight years and worked at the U.S. Post Office in Caro, Deford, North Branch and Linwood. He began as a mail carrier and retired as Postmaster. Following his retirement, he was a bus driver at Caro Community Schools for nine years. Don was a man who loved helping people; he loved this country; and he loved life. He was an amazing and caring man who is now at peace. He will be missed tremendously In addition to his wife, Don is survived by three loving children, Patricia A. Smith (Richard), Ricky A. Hill (Teri) and Marsha A. Kaplaniak (Michael); eight grandchildren, Jason Jakubos, Kevin Jakubos, Karen Gray, Ryne Jakubos, Nathan Hill, Nicole DeGain, Alana Ferguson, Ashley Kaplaniak; seventeen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Sharon McCreedy (Mitch). Don was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Orville and Alvaretta Hill; mother and step-father, Therma and Mel Greaves; step-son, Ira; sister, Phyllis Roy; brothers, Larry Hill and Ronnie Hill. In keeping with Don's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service with military honors will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022 at the Caro United Methodist Church. The family will be present to receive friends at the church on Friday, August 5, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the charity of their choice.
