Donald L Maurer

Donald Lee Maurer age 71 of Elkton passed away Monday afternoon, October 6, at his home while under hospice care.

He was born October 5, 1943 in Bad Axe to the late Vincent and Evelyn (Bannick) Maurer and grew up on a farm near Filion. After high school, Class of 61 Bad Axe, he farmed with his family several years.
On February 20, 1965, he was united in marriage to Lila A. Roberts in Verona. That same year, he hired in at Active Industries, Elkton, giving them 40 years of service. He also worked at Reibling farms for 20 of those years.
Don enjoyed the out of doors, working on small engines and cars. He liked classic cars and race cars, anything automotive he was in!, but mostly he liked having his family around.

Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Lila; four children, Terry (Nicki) Maurer of Elkton, Lisa (Brad Bricker) Maurer of Auburn Hills, Vincent (Pam) Maurer of Pigeon and Wayne (Meliza) Maurer of Elkton; fifteen grandchildren, Melissa (Jack), David (Jaime), Danielle, Brett, Jamie, Chad, Ashley, Justina, Cody, Courtney, Amber, Austin, Zac, Breanna, and Logan; 15 great grandchildren and three brothers, Jim, Randy and Rick Maurer all of Bad Axe and four sisters, Della (Bill) Anderson of Marlette, Trudy (Joe) Brenner, of Elkton, Sherry (Doug) Roberts of Elkton and Julie (Greg) Craig of Bad Axe.
Preceding him in death were two sisters, Connie Arntz and Linda Ferris and two sisters-in-law, Maryann and Debra Maurer.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 AM Thursday, October 9, at Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton with Rev. Don Stroud, pastor of the Filion Church of the Nazarene officiating.
Friends and family may call Wednesday from 11:00 AM to 9:00 PM and after 10 AM Thursday.
