Donald Glen McCracken, 86 of Pigeon (Caseville Township), passed away Friday, April 19, 2013 at Country Gardens Assisted Living in Pigeon.
Born in Pontiac Township, Oakland County on May 18, 1926, he was the son of the late Chester A. and Margaret (Buckley) McCracken, and graduated from St. Frederick High School in Pontiac. On January 11, 1947 he and Sara Martha Palopoli were married at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, Pontiac. He and Sara enjoyed traveling throughout the years of their marriage. They were married 64 years when Sara passed away June 25, 2011.
Don received his Bachelors Degree from Central Michigan College and his Masters Degree from Columbia University, New York City. He served in the European Theatre during World War II, earning a Purple Heart for his efforts. He also earned a French Croix de Guerre medal for grave injury as a medic in the U.S. Army.
Don was a General Motors personnel director and executive, working at Grand Blanc, Kalamazoo, Flint Fisher Body, and the World Headquarters in Warren.
Don enjoyed golfing, including in the Buick Open, and playing with Payne Stewart, Raymond Floyd and David Graham. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Caseville and attended St. Roch Catholic Church, Caseville.
Don was particularly fond of vacationing at Walt Disney World in Orlando. He dearly loved Sara, his daughter and son-in-law, his grandchildren, and his pet dogs. Don was a faithful Cadillac owner for decades.
He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Meg and Joe Nicholl of Pigeon (Caseville Township) and grandchildren, Joey Nicholl and Dani Nicholl.
Funeral Services will be private.
