Donald Moore

Donald C. Moore, age 80, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at Caro Community Hospital. He was born July 19, 1929 in Mount Morris, the son of the late Clarence W. & Ethel Mae (Beatty) Moore and graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1948. In his early years, Don was a member of the Sea Scouts and worked delivering milk for the Caro Creamery. Soon after, he began a fifty-two year career as an auctioneer, and later became a realtor for thirty-five years with Osentoski Realty & Auctioneering in Caro. In Dons first years as an auctioneer, he worked at the stock yards in Caro, Bad Axe, Sandusky, Charlotte and currently, at the Marlette Stockyard. For fifty-five consecutive years, Don was the Tuscola County Fair 4-H auctioneer and was once awarded a national championship in auctioneering. He later became very active with Ducks Unlimited, Pheasants Forever, Trout Unlimited, Whitetails Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation and the local area Red Cross. He was also a two-time life sponsor for Ducks Unlimited and a one-time life sponsor for Trout Unlimited. For twenty-five years, he was the local coordinator for DeShano Builders for both commercial and residential projects and helped bring cable television to Caro with Jim McCoy. Don is a member the Caro Moose Lodge and a member of the Elks Lodge #88 of Bay City. He was an avid skier, hunter, fisherman, airplane pilot, golfer, and at one time held the oldest continuous membership at the Caro Golf Course. Surviving are one daughter and her husband, Sue Ann Vollmar & Robert E. Jeffrey of Boulder, Colorado; his darling companion, Lee LaFave of Gagetown; one grandson and his wife, Donald & Ann Vollmar of Lantana, Texas; two great- grandchildren, Adam & Emily Vollmar and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by his sister, Beverly Ann Kitchen in 2005.
