Donald Clare Reid, age 78, passed away suddenly at Covenant Health Care - Cooper in Saginaw on Thursday, August 6, 2009. Don was born September 3, 1930 on the Reid farm in Wisner Township, the son of the late Alfred & Pearl (Neal) Reid. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1949 and was inducted in the U.S. Marine Corps in January of 1952. Don was discharged in 1954 and was united in marriage with the former Ruby Horwath on June 11, 1955 in Caro. Don began a lifelong career as a painter and decorator with his father at the age of sixteen. His business career began with the creation of Reids Decorating and Painting in 1963, a business he operated until his retirement in 2003. In addition to his work as a painter, Don was employed at Flint AC Sparkplug and later at the Caro Regional Center for twenty-eight years, retiring from the state in 1977. Don was a member of the Caro United Methodist Church and a Life Member of the Caro Mt. Moriah Masonic Lodge #226 F & AM. Don was an avid family man, and cherished his time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing, and refinishing furniture. In addition to his wife of over fifty-four years, Ruby Reid, Don is survived by two children and their spouses, Roger & Judy Reid of Caro, Roxann & Tim Severance of Palatine, Illinois; three grandchildren, Kyle Reid of Caro, Julia and Tessa Severance of Palatine, Illinois; one brother, Phillip Reid of Caro; one sister Maxine Gale of Shelby Township; sisters-in-law, Elaine Reid of Caro, Barbara Reid of White Lake, Michigan; brother and sister-in-law, Louis & Nancy Horwath of Blind River, Ontario, Canada and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister, Duane Reid, Arnet Reid, Alfred Reid, Jr. and Marge Fox.
