Donald James Roestel

Donald J. Roestel, 74, of Pigeon, died September 10, 2017 at McLaren Bay Region Hospital in Bay City.

Don was born October 28, 1942 to the late Henry and Gertrude (Rathje) Roestel at home in McKinley Township. He graduated Pigeon High School in 1960. On December 2, 1961 he married Marguerite “Peggy” Johnson of Caseville at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Berne.

Don was a cattle and crop farmer. He was a member of the Michigan Bean Board, Michigan Livestock Association, Pigeon Lions and Conservation Club. He was a trustee at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne.

He is survived by his wife Peggy; children Jim (Teresa) of Battle Creek, Lynn (Matt) Sorrell of Hudsonville, Beth (Norm) Myers of Vicksburg, and Angie (Tim) First of Mattawan; grandchildren Haley, Austin, Katie, Ashley, Zach, Brady, Henry, Charlotte and Claire; brother Leon (Janice) Roestel and sister Margie (Mike) Stevenson, both of Pigeon.

Funeral services will be at 11:00am Wednesday, September 13th at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steve Neuman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-8 Tuesday at 7436 Paul Street, Pigeon. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Champagne Funeral Chapel.
