Donald E. Schember age 48, of Elkton died Thursday morning, August 8, at McLaren, Bay Region after a long battle with health problems.
He was born August 12, 1964, to Edward and Jean (Wessels) Schember at Hubbard Hospital, Bad Axe. Don grew up in the Elkton area and was a1982 graduate of Laker High School.
On October 14, 1989, he was united in marriage to Diane J. Ballard at the Bad Axe Free Methodist Church.
Don loved horses and all animals, having had many pets since he was a small child. He was very active in Laker FFA, 4-H Club and taking livestock to the fair, where he won many awards for his championship rabbits. Don had been a Cub Scout leader and very active in the scout’s Pinewood Derby for many years. He had always been an avid woodworker, handling anything from making small toys for his sons to siding and remodeling. Don worked at the Randy Maschke farm for many years as well, he and Randy are still best of friends. He had also worked many years at U S Manufacturing, Bad Axe until they closed.
Don enjoyed all kinds of sports but especially loved to watch his sons compete in high school sports and play in the school band.
He will be greatly missed by his three sons, Donald, Nicholas and Dylan Schember all of Elkton; his parents, Edward Schember of Elkton and Jean (Wessels) Schember of Sandusky; four sisters, Debra Ramento of Jenks, OK, Cindy (Edward) Nichol of Tulsa, OK, Cheryl (Mark) Dickendesher of Sandusky and Trudy (Daniel) Gonzales of Saginaw; four nephews, Adam Ramento, Travis Dickendesher, Andrew Ramento and Justin (Rachel) Nichol; a niece, Ashley (Dale) Adams and a great niece, Kaila Joy Ramento.
Preceding him in death were his grandparents, Alfred and Lydia Schember and George and Tillie Wessels.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, August 13, at the Community Wesleyan Church, Elkton. Reverend’s William Onan and Reggie Courless will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery, Elkton.
Friends and family my call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 9 PM Monday and at the church after 10 AM Tuesday.
