Donald Lou Tomlinson, age 86, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Caro Community Hospital. He was born on July 13, 1923 in Ellington Township to the late Kenneth and Ruth (Hanna) Tomlinson. Tubby was a Caro High School graduate, and entered the U.S. Army where he served during WWII aboard an LCM. Donald Tomlinson and the former Joan Jayne were united in marriage on March 2, 1951 at the Jayne family residence in Caro. He was a lifelong self-employed farmer in Almer Township, and for ten years he worked as a seasonal employee for Michigan Sugar Company. Don and Joan enjoyed 19 years wintering in Florida. He was a life member of the Theron W. Atwood Sr. American Legion Post #7, and attended the Sutton-Sunshine United Methodist Church. Tubby was an avid fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Joan Tomlinson of Caro; two sons, Terry Tomlinson and Carol Murday of Caro, and Dean and Brenda Tomlinson of Caro; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Todd) Brick of Breckenridge and Robert Tomlinson attending Grand Valley State University; one great-grandchild, Haden Brick; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gerald Tomlinson. The funeral service will be held at the Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Pat Robbins, Sutton-Sunshine United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at Indianfields Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the Collon Funeral Home on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at 2:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Sutton-Sunshine United Methodist Church or the charity of the donors choice.
