Donald E. Voelker, age 95 of Pigeon passed away Friday morning September 25, 2015 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Don had been living with his daughter Irene and her family in Iowa for the past six years.
Born in Pigeon on November 21, 1919 he was the son of Oscar and Martha L. (Gettel) Voelker. On October 16, 1943 he was united in marriage to Viola E. A. Stricker. She passed away May 12, 1998.
Mr. Voelker was a graduate of Pigeon High School and farmed in the Pigeon community throughout his lifetime. He was a man of faith and a former member of the Salem United Methodist Church, Pigeon. He attended Pigeon River Mennonite Church, and while in Iowa attended the Christian Union Church in Indianola, Iowa. Don was a Gideon and an active supporter of Bay Shore Evangelical Camp as well as Thumb Blue Water Youth for Christ. Along with his wife Viola he was involved in children's Christian Book Ministry. He was a former member of the Farm Bureau, and while in the community, was active with the Elkton Senior Citizens Club. Don loved his family and was very supportive of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by two sons, Dale Voelker of College Park, Maryland and Eldon (Peggy) Voelker of Caseville; grandchildren: Wendy Jo Hatcher, Jill Ann (Ed) Grant, Keith (Jess) Voelker, Angela (David) Biedenbender and Renee (Brandon) Miller; step grandson, Craig (Julie) Ferguson; step granddaughter-in-law, Janet Ferguson; and eleven great-grandchildren: Noah, Micah, Stephen, Owen, Landon, Hailey, Izaak, Craig Jr., Angel, Jessica and Jeremy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola; daughter and son-in-law, Irene Judy and Morris Ferguson; granddaughter Julia Voelker; step grandson Randy Ferguson; brother, Otto; and sisters Laura LaValley, Vera Lum, Lila Radar and Velma Valasek.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at Pigeon River Mennonite Church, Pigeon, with Pastor Ken Smeader officiating. Burial will be in Grand Lawn Cemetery, Winsor Township.
Memorials may be made to the charity of donor's choice or to the family discretionary fund.
