Doris M. Diehl

Doris Marie (White) Diehl, age 91, of Unionville, joined the Lord on August 13, 2016, with her husband, parents, brothers, family and friends in an eternal celebration!

She was born to David and Josephine White on March 25, 1925, in Harbor Beach, Michigan. Growing up in Harbor Beach, she met her husband, Frederick Jacob Diehl. They were married March 8, 1943, and celebrated 51 years together and are now re-united for eternity. Doris will be greatly missed by her family, friends and a community that she dedicated her life to love. She and Fred worked together to raise 13 children; Tom (Chris) Diehl, Mike (Alicia) Diehl, Al (Kay/deceased)Diehl, Pat (Bruce) Achenbach, Carol (Gary) Becker, Dan (Lisa) Diehl, Greg (Nancy) Diehl, Maryann Diehl, Fred (fiance Shauna Hatfield) Diehl, Gayle (Steve) Selewski, Deb (Robert) Berkstresser, Paula (Rick) Workman and Marsha (George) Spehar. The heritage they have left behind has grown from their children and spouses to more than 63 grandchildren and their spouses, more than 58 Great-Grandchildren and their spouses and 7 Great-Great-Grandchildren.

Doris was a very hard working woman, but did it with a joyful, loving attitude. She enjoyed caring for her husband, children and the many guests that came through our home; cooking, cleaning and seeing to everyone's comfort for hours every day. She was also very active within the Holy Family Church community. She taught catechism, served with the Women in the Women's Circle and parish council and prepared funeral dinners. While the youngest children were in grade school, she began a career cooking at area restaurants. She started that career at the Heidleberg restaurant in Sebewaing, then moved to the Lamplighter restaurant, the Unionville Bakery and finished her cooking career at age 84 while working at the Intermission Deli.

Her constant faith in God's care, provision and comfort are a trademark of her life that we will remember her for. The constant truth that she proclaimed throughout her life was that if we ask, God will always answer. Even the smallest detail, He is concerned with. Her encouraging words of trust, devotion, faith and family unity will live in our hearts as treasured pieces of her love for us. During the recent years of challenging health, Doris's dependence on God became her greatest strength and His greatest display of love for her. When the memories of the people and places around her began to fade, her memories of God grew stronger. That is the truth of a God who will never leave us or forsake us and take great comfort knowing that she will forever be in His joyful presence dancing for joy!

Proverbs 31 speaks of a wife with noble character. In loving memory of my mother, I would honor her with these verses; 25. She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her... 30. Charm is deceptive, and beauty fleeting; but a women who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her the reward she has earned.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 3-8pm, with the rosary at 6pm and vigil to follow.

The funeral service will be Wednesday, August 17, 2016. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady Consolata Parish, Holy Family Church, 8370 Sebewaing, Michigan 48759. Visitation will begin at the church at 10:30am, until the time of Mass at 11:30am.
