Doris Marie Pelica, age 81, went to be home with her Lord Sunday, March 25, 2012 at her home, following a period of declining health. Doris was born January 18, 1931 in Ft. Payne, Alabama, the daughter of the late William & Lillian (Horne) Dean. She was united in marriage with Teddy Walter Pelica on March 31, 1951 at the Akron Methodist Church, and the couple cherished more than fifty-six years together before Teddys death in 2007. Doris was employed at the Caro State Hospital as a supervisor for eighteen years before her retirement in 1971 when she began employment with the U.S. Postal Service in Akron as a clerk for fifteen years, retiring in 1986. She was a member of the Akron United Methodist Church and enjoyed attending the Caro United Methodist Church after moving to Caro to be near family. Doris enjoyed her flowers, gardening, cooking, reading and traveling. She loved talking with her husband over coffee while watching the birds and wildlife on the river at their Grayling cabin. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Doris is survived by three children and their spouses, Kathy & Roy Jobson, Paul & Mary Pelica, Kimberly & Jerry Thorp; seven grandchildren, Julie Loesel, Melanie and Christopher Ruppal, Tyler Jobson, Joseph Pelica, Abby and Riley Thorp; eight great-grandchildren, Elana and Joseph Teddy Pelica, Hunter, Devin, Hannah and Emmerson Grace Ruppal, Zachary and Erica Loesel; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Teddy, Doris was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Lynn Pelica and one brother, Franklin Dean. Funeral services will be held at the Caro United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 with Rev. Gregg Mayberry officiating. Burial will follow at the Demorest Cemetery in Akron. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home in Caro on Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Family Discretionary Fund.
