Doris Florence (Bitzer-Bang) Schember, age 84, of Gagetown, passed away Sunday, January 24, 2016.

Doris was born in Sebewaing on May 21, 1931, to the late Elmer and Florence (Kramer) Bitzer. She was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville and graduated from Unionville High School in 1950. She married Earl Adam Schember on October 15, 1994 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City.

Doris was employed as a waitress in a number of area restaurants before working in the offices of Ford Beers Sales, Johnnies Motor Sales and First of America Bank, where she retired after 28 years of banking in 1995.She worked as a greeter at the Unionville Funeral Chapel, was an active member and served as Financial Secretary at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City, served on the Gagetown Village Council, and was one of the founding members and treasurer for 18 years for the Thumb Octagon Barn. She enjoyed spending time with family, reading, was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, liked working crossword puzzles, traveling, painting wood crafts and flower gardening.

Doris is survived by her husband, Earl Schember; children: Timothy Bang (partner Paul Keast), Pam (Chris) Kuhl, Randy (Donna) Bang; grandsons: Matt Bang and Eli Bang; sister-in-law Dee Bitzer; niece, Patty; eight nephews: Eric, Kevin, Kim, David, Bret, Scott, Neal and Trent; step children: Larry (Lois) Schember, Peggy McKnight, Tammy Carpenter, Lonnie (fiancé Christina Davis) Schember; step grandchildren: Crystal, James, Kerri, Heather, Sarah, Kelly, Debbie and Robbie; step great grandchildren: Emily, Makayla, Blake, Ethan, Logan, Paige, Eric, Dalton, Adam, Travis, Tiffany, Tanner, Lilly, Abrianna, Anthony, MaKenna, Ava, Lydia and Hannah.

Preceded in death by her step son, Doug Schember; step great-great granddaughter , Devon; step granddaughter, Somre; infant brother, Otto; brothers, Harold Bitzer and Donald Bitzer; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Bitzer.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm.

The funeral service will be Thursday, January 28, 2016, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Cass City. Visitation will begin at the church at 10am until the time of service at 11am. Rev. Bagnall will be officiating.

Burial will take place privately at Columbia Twp. Cemetery in Unionville.

Memorial donations may be given to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Thumb Octagon Barn.
