Doris Jean (Siewert) Schuette, age 86, of Pigeon, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2024 at Huron County Medical Care in Bad Axe.
She was born on January 21, 1938, in Bay Port, Michigan, the daughter of the late Henry John and Alvira (Eden) Siewert.
Doris graduated from Pigeon High School in 1956 and received a degree from Baker Business College. On February 13, 1960, she married Harvey LeRoy Schuette at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church-Berne, where she was an active member of the Women’s Society and involved in other church and school activities. Harvey preceded her in death on August 18, 2023.
Throughout her life, Doris worked diligently in a variety of roles. She was employed at Dow Chemical, a trucking company, her brother’s Sunoco gas station, and Huron Loan before spending the last 18 years of her career as the finance director of the Huron County Health Department.
Doris had a wide array of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed watching Detroit Lions and Tigers games with her husband, Harvey, and participated in bowling leagues. She was an avid reader, loved solving word puzzles, and took pride in creating beautiful quilts and wall hangings, which showcased her artistic talents and meticulous attention to detail.
Doris is survived by her children: Linda Shepard of Lansing, MI; Lisa (Rich Mullens) Schuette of Eagle River, AK; Jeffrey (Kelly) Schuette of Oakton, VA. She was a proud grandmother to Zachary Shepard and Matthew Schuette; step-grandmother to Michael Mullens, Erin Mullens, Lucas (Brittany) Shepard, and Emily Stepp; several step-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Doris is also survived by her brother-in-law Rodda House, and sisters-in-law Noel Wichert and Dianne Schuette.
She was preceded in death by her siblings: Marilyn Siewert, Marvin Siewert, and Joyce House; her son-in-law Scott Shepard; step-granddaughter Carie Smith; her sisters-in-law Lorraine Metzger, Genevieve Buschlen, and Mildred Schuette; brothers-in-law Donald Metzger, LeRoy Buschlen, Orville Schuette, Ronald Wichert, and Arnold Schuette Jr.
Doris will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her warm and generous spirit, and her deep love for her family and friends. She left an indelible mark on all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be at 11:00am Saturday, November 23rd at St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne with Rev. Steve Neuman officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8pm Friday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service in church Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s Ev. Lutheran Church-Berne or the Pigeon District Library.
