Doris M. Turner of Caro, age 87, passed away on Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Tuscola County Medical Care Community in Caro. Doris was born November 15, 1927 in Flint, the daughter of the late Mark & Mildred (Wieland) Nowland. She graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1946 and began work shortly after at the Caro Regional Center as a secretary. Doris took several years off to raise her son, Terry, before beginning a career in title work, first for Tuscola County Title and Escrow and later for the Tuscola County Register of Deeds. Her meticulous nature made her well suited for a research position at the county, and also led to her passion for family history and genealogy. Doris also loved writing poetry and was published in the fall 1997 edition of "Treasured Poems of America" for her poem "The Nursing Home" which won fifth place. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Terry M. Turner of Caro; two brothers, Bob Nowland of Caro, Maurice Nowland and his wife, Ruth, of Lansing; three nieces and their spouses, Barb & Jim Miklovic of Caro, Mary & Scott Raymer of Caro, Nancy Nowland of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and many loving cousins and extended family. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her nephew, Dean Nowland; and sister-in-law, Sally Nowland. Private services will be held at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro with Rev. Michele Hile officiating. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to the Turner Family Discretionary Fund, c/o Barb Miklovic, 205 West Sherman Street, Caro, MI 48723.
