Dorothy Jean Canfield (89) of Sebewaing, Michigan passed away peacefully after a prolonged illness on April 20, 2019. At her side was her husband of nearly 70 years, Harold Keuhn Canfield.
Jean was born near Andersonville, Tennessee on January 5, 1930. As a young girl her family moved to Detroit and then to a farm north of Howell Michigan. She graduated from Hartland High School, and after a very short three month courtship married Harold on June 11, 1949.
Harold and Jean began their life together as husband and wife on a small farm in Fowlerville, MI, where their family quickly grew to eight. Jean was a wife, a consummate mother, homemaker, author, and member of the Perry United Methodist Church. She made the best peanut butter fudge and always had an open house and spot for you at the table. She was quick witted and full of life. She made you feel cared for the moment you stepped in the door.
Jean is survived by her husband Harold and 5 children: Michael (Carla Slatten), Tom (Becky Goodimote), John, Edward (Cheryl Barker), and Keith (Carrie Rostar); and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Their eldest, daughter Susan, to the great sorrow of all who knew her preceded Jean in death. She is also survived by brother James (Brenda) Gentry, sisters Mildred (Richard) Anderson, Mary Lou Miller, and Roberta (Milton) Gaines. Her brothers Castelle (Nancy) Gentry and Melvin "Butch" (Terry) Gentry and her sister Sally Arnett preceded her in death.
Please join us in celebrating her life on Friday, April 26 th at 11 am, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 513 Washington Street, Sebewaing, MI 48759. There will be a luncheon immediately following the service. All guests are encouraged to stay and share time and memories with Harold and the family.
Memorials can be made to Heartland Hospice. A burial service will take place at Sanford Cemetery in Howell, Michigan at a later date.
