Dorothy Margaret Faust of Caro, age 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at Brookdale Midland, with her beloved family by her side.
Dorothy’s life was a beautiful story; one of love, faith, strength, and determination...
She was born on October 7, 1930, to Clifford and Margaret (Kretz) Demo, and raised in Cass City. After graduating with the Cass City High School Class of 1949, she met the man who would become her partner in all things, Elmer Faust. They were married on February 3, 1951, and cherished sixty-three years of marriage until Elmer’s passing in 2014. Their bond was so strong and admired that they were once named the Tuscola County Advertiser’s “Couple of the Year.”
While Dorothy devoted much of her life to raising their six children, she was far more than a homemaker. She was the driving force behind Elmer’s business ventures, playing a vital role in developing some of Caro’s most recognizable neighborhoods and properties, including Northwood Heights Subdivision, Oakridge Pointe Condominiums, Northwood Apartments, and several businesses on the east end of the city. Her influence was present in every phase of the work, from planning and decision-making to designing and painting each of the homes. Dorothy’s attention to detail and work ethic were woven into every wall.
Her life was grounded in her deep Catholic faith and devotion to Sacred Heart Church, where she served in many ways over the years. Her love for God and others was evident in everything she did. She was honored as “Mother of the Year” by her church and received the esteemed Mother Seton Award, recognizing her selfless dedication to service.
Dorothy’s heart was always with her family. Her children adored her, and she became “Mama” to many more during her five years at Brookdale Midland. She had a special affection for babies and young children, her face lighting up whenever one was near.
Her family often joked that Dorothy had nine lives. Time and again, she faced challenges with grace and resilience, always with a purpose and a quiet strength that inspired those around her. They truly believed God had plans for her, even in her later years.
As this chapter came to an end, Dorothy took one last look at the life she had lived so fully, breathed in deeply, and gently whispered to herself, “it’s time.” With peace in her heart and love surrounding her, she was ready to begin her next story.
Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are her children, Pamela (Johnathan) Miller of Kawkawlin, Patti Faust-Gabler of Caro, Mary (Steve) Lloyd of Bay City, and Jane (Michael) Butcher of Caseville; grandchildren, Nicholas Miller (Tracy Granger), Kaitlyn (Caleb) Boese, Stephanie (Michael) Losee, Paige Lloyd, Jacob Butcher, Kelsey (Brandon) Havercamp, Ethan (Josie) Abbe, and Harrison Abbe; great-grandchildren, Nash, Colton, Alexandria, Emma, Everleigh, Wyatt, Easton, and Kamden; sister-in-law, Idena Rodd; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by a son, Ed Faust; daughter, Sue Ellen Abbe; grandson, Kurt Abbe, Jr.; and siblings, Shirley Fitzmaurice, Joan VanWormer-Smith, Jean Maksimovicz, and William Demo.
