Dorothy Ruby Hafner

Dorothy R. (Dubs) Hafner, 94, of Pigeon died Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Home Sweet Home in Pigeon.

Dorothy was born October 12, 1923 in Elkton to the late Bert and Hazel (Cummings) Dubs.  She married Omar Hafner April 25, 1942 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Linkville; he preceded her in death April 25, 2009.  Together they farmed in Brookfield Township for 30+ years.  She was a great cook and baker, and shared her talents with family and friends.  She enjoyed traveling and fishing with her husband in northern Michigan and spent winters in Florida until 2000.

She was a previous member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Bach where she was a member of the Ladies Aide, choir and Altar Guild.  After retiring and moving to Pigeon she was a member of Cross Lutheran Church.  Pastor Tim Loehrke visited her often and she enjoyed her talks with him.  She was a resident of Home Sweet Home for 10 years and the staff cared for her like one of their own family members.  She enjoyed the time spent with all her grandchildren.

She is survived by her daughters Donna (Dale) Schuette of Elkton, Diana (friend James Kostrzewa) Hennrick of Bay City and Mary (friend Dr. Roderick Baltzer) Donnelly of Bay City; 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren; siblings Maybelle Deering, Ava (Henry) Gies, and Wilbert Dubs, all of Pigeon; sisters-in-law Shirley Dubs of Bay Port and Valeria Dubs of Kinde.

She was preceded in death by her sisters Ruth Heck, Betty Dunn, and Evelyn Bolzman; brothers Jim and William Dubs; sister-in-law Bette Dubs; brothers-in-law Raymond Heck, Nelson Dunn, Delyle Deering and Lloyd Bolzman.

Funeral services will be 2:00pm Friday, April 6 ^th at Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke officiating.  Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Sebewaing.  Visitation will begin at 11:00am Friday at church and continue until the time of the service.  Champagne Funeral Chapel is handling the services.
