Dorothy Hedley age 87, of Elkton, entered eternal life, Thursday afternoon, July 7, at the Huron County Medical Care Facility with her family by her side.
She was born May 16, 1924 to the late Ross and Mabel (Hampton) McClain in Nashville, Illinois. She met her husband, Hudson Hedley, when he was stationed at Scott Air Force Base in Belleville, Illinois, while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII. They were married on November 8, 1942. They returned to Hudson’s home in Caseville after his military service and eventually moved to Elkton on Whalen St. in 1945 and on to Brown St. in 1954, where they raised their children and maintained a home until her health necessitated a move to Huron Medical Care, Bad Axe in 2009. Hudson preceded her in death, April 19, 1992 after 49 years of marriage.
Dorothy worked as a waitress at the Bella Vista Inn in Caseville, the Made Rite Potato Chip Factory, and Hamil Manufacturing, where she was elected and served as a UAW labor representative, retiring in 1980.
Dorothy enjoyed cooking and was an excellent baker. She will always be remembered, especially by her grandchildren, for her excellent pies. She enjoyed her flowers in the summer and quilting with the ladies of the Elkton United Methodist Church in the winter where she was a lifelong member and Sunday school teacher. Dorothy also loved to travel. She particularly enjoyed her trips to Illinois and Wisconsin to visit her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children; Janet (Lewis) Hill of Pigeon, Lonnie (Jill) Hedley of Elkton, Larry (Belinda) Hedley of Pontiac, Clark (Eileen) Hedley of Freeland; eight grandchildren, Kelly Hill, Marc (Michelle) Hill, Tica (Jason) Hamilton, Rebecca (Brian) Brown, Brenda (Mike) Mehl, Kristin Hedley(Mike Prosowski), Lonnie K. Hedley, and Ellen Hedley; seven great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jake Hedley of Caseville, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Preceding her in death were three sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted 1:00 PM Sunday, July 10, at Elkton United Methodist Church. Rev. Craig Pillow, pastor and visiting pastor, Dan Dumas of the Apostolic Church of Auburn Hills will officiate with burial in Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Champagne Funeral Chapel, Elkton from 2 to 8 PM Saturday and at the church after 12 noon Sunday.
