Dorothy Jane Lobdell

August 24, 1932 — October 10, 2025

Caro

It is with the saddest of hearts that the Lobdell family wish to share the passing of not only a devoted wife, mother of five, friend to many, a legendary well-known local babysitter and a truly remarkable woman. Dorothy Jane Lobdell was committed to her family working tirelessly not only raising her own five children but countless youth within the community. A simple woman who required little in life to survive and sacrificed selfishly to provide for those she loved; although she was deserving of the finest possessions this world could provide. It was on Friday, October 10, 2025, that Dorothy succumb to her personal battles and finally rested for the last time where she lived at Satchels Christian Foster Care Home. She has found peace, and it is our family’s belief is she has been reunited with the love of her life and has begun her new greatest adventure.

Dorothy Jane Sattleberg was born on August 24, 1932, in Columbia Corners to the late Elmer and Marie (Link) Sattelberg. She was the oldest of three children and together they attended elementary school in Gagetown where she excelled and was even able to skip the sixth grade. She ultimately graduated from Caro High School class of 1949.

On March 4, 1950, she married the man she would spend the next 48 years with Herbert Claude Lobdell a marriage of true love, friendship and a lot of laughter. After his passing in 1998 she has continued to carry his memory with her daily for over 27 years.

Dorothy was an in home babysitter for over 50 years where countless children and families including her own were under her care and supervision at the infamous 689 West Lincoln Street. Children of all ages could be seen playing ball in the backyard, riding bikes around the block and enjoying one of the thousands of lunches and snacks she provided. She would lay down the law when it was needed, offer great conversation, help with school work, play with the little ones and her greatest joy came from snuggling the babies.

Dorothy will be remembered for countless things that brought her great joy. She was an avid reader including novels of all kinds, magazines, and the daily newspaper. She completed crossword puzzles every day and was always up for a good movie, her favorite television shows especially a good basketball or baseball game. She enjoyed shopping and could never turn down a great jacket, purse or new pair of shoes. She enjoyed long afternoon car rides, sitting down for a good meal at a restaurant preferably with a good cup of black coffee. She was also known for her countless hours sitting outside her home in the late afternoons in her rocking chair.

She leaves behind five children; Michael Lobdell of Caro, Michigan, Randy Lobdell and his wife Nancy of Bay City, Michigan, Sharon Dilleree and her husband Richard of Caro, Michigan, Greg Lobdell and his wife Chris of Birmingham, Alabama, Kim Lobdell and his wife Julie of Marietta, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy, Heather, Cliff, Sarah, Joseph, Chad, Trevor, Justin, Nicole, Casey and Erin; 4 step grandchildren, Julie, Jimmy, Jeremy and John; 25 Great-grandchildren; Brother, Lee and his wife Denna of Bryon, Michigan; sister-in-law, Sue Sattleberg of Caro, Michigan; two nephews, Dr. Carl Sattelberg and his wife Tammy of Port Huron, Michigan, Dennis Sattelberg and his wife Ann Marie of Caro, Michigan; two great nephews, Curtis Sattelberg and his wife Stacey and Dr. Jake Sattelberg.

In addition to the greatest loss of her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Donald Sattelberg; sister-in law Ann Sattelberg and one daughter-in-law Sally Lobdell.
