Dorothy McAlpine, age 83 years, of Caro, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Covenant Health Care-Harrison in Saginaw. She was born on January 6, 1925 in Unionville to the late Adolph and Katherine (Jaster) Eisengruber. On April 9, 1947 the former Dorothy Eisengruber married Robert Harold McAlpine in Unionville at St. Joseph Church. He preceded her in death on March 3, 2003. She was a lifelong resident of Tuscola County. Dorothy graduated from high school in Unionville, raised her family, and then held the position of office manager at the Caro plant of Michigan Sugar Company until her retirement. She had been a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for more than sixty years and actively volunteered time at the Sacred Heart School. Dorothy belonged to a number of ladies church related activities, and in addition to raising a family, she loved to read, sew, quilt and china paint. Most recently, her passion was flowers and her garden. She is survived by four sons, one daughter and their spouses, David McAlpine of Marion, Thomas (Linda) McAlpine of Charlotte, North Carolina, Mark McAlpine (Cathy Catallo) of Highland, John (Anne) McAlpine of Grosse Pointe Woods and Catherine (John) Richardson of Lafayette, Indiana; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Roy McAlpine of Bay City; a sister-in-law, Eileen McAlpine of Chicago; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her step-mother, Martha Eisengruber; one brother-in-law; Conrad McAlpine; and a sister-in-law, Laura McAlpine. Funeral Liturgy will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, Michigan on Tuesday, October 28, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. Dennis Kucharczyk officiating. Rite of Committal will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Collon Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at 10:00 a.m. There will be a Vigil for the Deceased on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
