Dorothy E. Newkirk, 91, of Caseville went to be with her Lord on Friday, January 31, 2020 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.
Dorothy was born May 30, 1928, on the west side of Detroit to the late Walter Leigh and Nellie Leah (Weiss) McKerracher. Dorothy married Verdun Newkirk on June 17, 1950 in Detroit; he preceded her in death on August 16, 2008.
Verdun was a Baptist minister serving at numerous churches in Michigan, settling in Caseville in 1990. Dorothy supported her husband’s ministry by sharing her talent in music, both as an accompanist and teacher of music for over 40 years. She was active in serving others; she enjoyed sewing, puzzles, and remembering friends’ birthdays and anniversaries.
She is survived by her children Gary (Sharon) of Southgate, Lynne of Caseville and Craig (Cheryl) of Indiana; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brothers Jack and Glen McKerracher.
Funeral services will be 2:00pm Monday, February 3rd at Calvary Baptist Church in Caseville with Revs. Eric Newkirk and Mike Goforth officiating. Burial will be in Caseville Twp. Cemetery.
Visitation will be 1-5pm Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon.
Memorials may be made to the family.
