Dorothy Marie Schafer, age 91, of Unionville, passed away Saturday, April 22, 2017, at Bay County Medical Care Facility.
Dorothy was born in Saginaw on June 1, 1925, to Lewis and Cecelia (Meisch) Johnson. She married Arold Schafer on February 23, 1946, in Saginaw. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2003. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, enjoyed golfing, bowling, sewing, needlepoint, word searches, and watching the Detroit Tigers. She was active in the women's alter society in Florida and Michigan, Red Hats, Junior Women's Club and was on the Residence Council at the care facility.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Katherine "Kay" (Dennis) Reames of Unionville; grandchildren: Lisa (Robert) Greenia of Reese and Christopher Reames of Traverse City; great grandchildren: Regan Greenia, Eathon Greenia and Morgan Reames; sisters: Joanne (Howard) Maturen of Saginaw, Marylou Krueger of Auburn, Barbara (James) Kelly of Saginaw, Margaret (Russell) Morgan of Saginaw; sister-in-law, Helen Schafer of Sebewaing; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, William Johnson; and brother-in-law, James Krueger.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at Juengel & Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 2-8pm.
The funeral service will be Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in 614 Pine St., Essexville. Visitation at the church will begin at 9:30am until the time of Mass at 10:30am.
The burial will be at the Moravian Cemetery in Unionville following the service.
Memorial donations may be given to the family.
