Douglas E. Blasius

Douglas E. Blasius of Caro, age 71, passed away on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Doug was born September 1, 1949 in Caro, the son of the late Kenneth James & Betty (McLaughlin) Blasius. He graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1967 and continued his studies at Ferris State University and Western Michigan University, graduating in 1971 with a degree in psychology. In 1979, Doug received his teaching degree from Central Michigan University. He was united in marriage the following year with Robyn Romatz on September 27, 1980, and the couple has cherished more than forty years together. Providing an education to those with special needs was Doug's passion, and he began his career as the recreation director for the Caro Regional Center for several years before spending thirty-seven years at the Tuscola Intermediate School District. During his time at TISD, Doug worked as a special education teacher for physical education, swimming, and finally as the vocational training coordinator. He was also very involved with Special Olympics and was the Area 10 director for the organization. Anyone that knew Doug will remember his unrivaled sense of humor and the lengths he would go to make Robyn laugh. His true joy came from the smiles of others. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing, kayaking, golfing, and ATV riding. Doug was a talented woodworker that was constantly improving his home and more recently took an interest in crafting knife handles. Doug loved being surrounded by family and friends whom he adored. Left to cherish Doug's memory are his loving wife, Robyn Blasius of Caro; four children and their spouses, Scott (Laura) Blasius of Rockford, Mark (Amy) Blasius of Newton, Iowa, Melony Blasius and her significant other, Steve, of Adrian, Ryan Blasius and his significant other, Sabrina, of Caro; four grandchildren, Bryson, Rocco, Lyla, and Ellie; three siblings, Jim (Thelma) Blasius of Dover, Delaware, Tim (Eric) Blasius of Harper Woods, Dawn Ewald of Caro; special friend of the family, Donna Chapin of Ann Arbor; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by an infant granddaughter, Brooklyn.
