Douglas Charles Nixon, age 87, of Akron, was called to his heavenly home On March 18, 2026.

He was born July 14, 1938 in Unionville to Clarence and Vernice (Cosens) Nixon.  His grandparents were Leo and Myrtle Nixon and Charles and Margaret Cosens.  He married Betty Neu on July 26, 1958 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville.

Doug graduated from Unionville High School in 1956 where he excelled in football and track.  He went on to join the U.S. Navy where he was on training missions to the region of the Caribbean Sea, Panama and honorably discharged in 1957. Doug discovered early his true passion as a lifelong farmer after working for DeFoe Shipbuilding and Chevrolet; in addition, to raising laying hens for 20 years.  He repaired televisons after completing a correspondence course.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, taking his boat out on the Saginaw Bay and camping trips with his family throughout the U.S. and fishing in Canada.  He enjoyed taking O's Gold excursions to Hawaii and the Bahamas. Doug enjoyed repairing farm equipment, maintaining his vehicles and farming with his son Brett.  Some of his hobbies included watching the Detroit Lions, painting his combine, going to auction sales and visits to the casino.  Doug never retired from farming and was a caring husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Doug is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 67 years, Betty; daughters: Laurie Richter (Rick) and Linda Nixon; son, Brett Nixon; grandchildren: Jeff Forrest, Lisa Forrest, Alex (Sarah) Pierson and Lynn (Andrew) Rea; great grandchildren:  Riley, Max, Carli, Camryn, Chloe, Aldo and Jordyn; brother, Raymond Dale Nixon; brothers & sisters-in laws, LeRoy & Sharon Loeffler, Coral Neu, Bradley Neu and David & Deanne Beuschel and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded him in death are his parents; brother, Dennis; sister-in-law, Shirley Nixon; son-in-law, James Forrest; nephew, Dennis Nixon.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers for their support during his illness.

Visitation and service for Doug will be Monday, March 23, 2026, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (Unionville). Visitation will begin at 11am until the time of service at 12pm. Burial will take place privately at Wisner Twp. Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 6356 Center Street, Unionville, MI  48767 or family wishes.
