Duane Ackerman

Duane Ackerman, age 78, of Gagetown, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2019, at McLaren Bay Region in Bay City.

Duane was born January 27, 1941, in Unionville, to Ealy and Ella (Engelhard) Ackerman. He graduated from Unionville High School, Class of 1959 and then attended Michigan State University for farming courses. He married Annabelle Rowbotham on November 12, 1966, at the Nazarene Church in Port Huron. He enjoyed fishing, farming, hunting, traveling south, and driving around looking at fields.

Duane is survived by his wife, Ann; children: Gayle (Kevin) Ortner of Bay City,Christene (Dan) Swartzendruber of Essexville, Caroline (Brody) Robison of Grayling, Marjorie Ackerman of Fargo, North Dakota, and James Ackerman of Ormond Beach, Florida; grandchildren: Hilary (Courtney) Rau, Devin (Alexis) Ortner, Kaleb (Mackenzie Eurich) Ortner, Jason and Jessica Swartzendruber, Austin and Skyler Robison, and Rachel (Riley Fischer) Ackerman; 6 great grandchildren; sister, Norleen Ackerman of Taylorsville, Utah; brother, Harold Ackerman of Sterling Heights; sister-in-law, Joanna Ackerman of Rochester Hills; and many nieces and nephews.

Duane is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Norbert Ackerman.

A memorial visitation and service will be Saturday, December 28, 2019, at the Unionville Moravian Church. Visitation will begin at 9:30am until the time of service at 11am.
