Duane Foster "Dewey" Hickey

Duane "Dewey" Foster Hickey of Fairgrove, age 75, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 22, 2021. Dewey was born December 8, 1945 in Saginaw, the son of the late Foster & Norinne (Goodall) Hickey. He was a lifelong farmer and proud resident of Fairgrove. Dewey graduated from Fairgrove High School with the class of 1964 where he played football and was active with FFA and 4-H, raising livestock and crops. He would often laugh that every time his father left on a hunting trip, Dewey was left home to deliver a calf. Following graduation, he attended Michigan State University's short course in agriculture before being drafted into the U.S. Army. While in the service, he was stationed in Korea and worked in the chemical warfare division. In 1969, Dewey was honorably discharged and returned to the area to continue farming while also working at Grede Factory in Vassar. That same year, Dewey was united in marriage with Christine Mark until her passing in 1997. Dewey was very active in the community where he was a member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, Fairgrove VFW, Bean Festival, Lions Club, Jaycees, and the Caro Mt. Moriah Lodge #226. Dewey was given a second chance at love when he met Patrese (Darling) Dell, and on April 2, 2005 the couple was married at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. An outdoorsman at heart, Dewey enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, and riding his motorcycle. Dewey enjoyed many winters spent in Florida and traveling to area car shows to show off his beloved Corvette. He had a special connection with animals and always had a popsicle ready for his beloved grandchildren. Dewey is survived by his loving wife, Patrese Hickey of Fairgrove; one daughter and her husband, Robin & John Esteb of Indianapolis, Indiana; two step-sons, David Dell of Grand Blanc and Brian Dell of Fairgrove; four grandchildren, Scott and Ava Esteb, Levi and Harlow Dell; one sister, Christine Shaw and her companion, Keith LaPratt, of Fairgrove; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and first wife, Dewey was preceded in death by one daughter, Sarah (Hickey) Bobzien in 2009.
