Duane H. Sprague of Akron, age 80, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw, following a brief illness. He was born January 17, 1933 in Winner, South Dakota, the son of the late Harold & Agnes (Richards) Sprague. Duane was united in marriage with the former Helen Brandt on July 5, 1955 in Grand Island, Nebraska. She preceded him in death on March 22, 2012. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Navy, and was discharged honorably in 1953. Duane was an electrician/general foreman at General Motors, retiring in 1995 after twenty-six years of service. He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove, the Fairgrove V.F.W. Post #7486, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and was also a Mason. Duane loved hunting, fishing, woodworking, golfing, motorcycle riding and camping. He once held a private pilot's license and enjoyed operating his ham radio. Duane is survived by his fianc, Lou-Anne Weiszbrod; four children and their spouses, H. Duane & Denise Sprague of Lansing, Alan & Karen Sprague of Bay City, Cynthia & James Garvin of Olathe, Kansas, Bryan & Kathy Sprague of Bay City; seven grandchildren, Staci, Melissa, Jeremy & Ali, Matthew, Jessica and her fianc Johnie, Meghan and Katie; five great-grandchildren, Mason, Brendan, Emili, Jeffrey and Kenzie; one sister and her husband, Nita & Ron Moser of Nevada; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Ione "Sis" Kraft and Vernon Sprague. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove with Rev. Leonard Astrowski officiating. Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly. The family will receive friends at the Ransford Collon Funeral Home on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 10:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorial contributions to Grace Lutheran Church in Fairgrove, American Cancer Society, or the Wounded Warrior Project.
