Dwight Forshee

Dwight Delano Forshee, age 63, of Ann Arbor, passed away to be with his Lord Thursday, May 28, 2009 at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital. He was born on the family farm December 2, 1945 in Akron, MI, the son of Harry and Mildred (Hall) Forshee. On April 15, 1967, Dwight married Marilyn Whittenburg. She survives as well as their son, Terry (Wanda) Forshee and their daughter, Jacqueline (Scott) Bennett; their grandchildren, Matthew, Jake, Zu, Rachel, Kaitlyn and Joshua; two sisters, Harriette Pearce and Carolyn (Richard) Chambers; one brother, John (Deb) Forshee; as well as other extended family. At age four, Dwight was diagnosed with polio, which affected his legs physically, but never dampened his spirit. In Junior High, Dwight stayed engaged in games of basketball because he was taller than the other guys. In High School, Dwight played the trombone in the school marching band. He grew up on the farm working with his father in the fields and with the Forshee Farm Service business, building custom grain truck boxes and servicing farm equipment. In 1973, Dwight followed Gods call into ministry. After receiving a degree in pastoral studies from Appalachian Bible College, he served as pastor at Evergreen Bible Church in Marietta, OH and later at Bethany Bible Church in Ann Arbor. Due to declining health because of post-polio syndrome, he left the ministry but God wasnt done with him yet in terms of personal ministry. He went back to school and received a BA degree in Guidance and Counseling from EMU, a Masters in Social Work from the U of M and a Doctorate in Christian Counseling from Bethany Theological Seminary. With these new tools, he moved into the ministry of bereavement counseling with St. Joseph Mercy Hospice. He was with Hospice for eleven years until the post-polio forced him into retirement. When he could no longer actively go visit others, the Lord brought many people to him where he continued to minister to those in grief or with those with spiritual needs. Dwight always had a gentle and caring personality and he impacted many lives. The funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 1, 2009 at Faithway Baptist Church, 2020 Packard Road, Ypsilanti with Pastor Scott Estell officiating.
