Edgar Grabill Shantry, 78, of Caseville, died Friday, September 19, 2014 at his home while under hospice care.

Ed was born December 10, 1935 in Highland Park to the late Alfred and Daisy (Kendall) Shantry. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1959. He married Rita Gosselin on August 21, 1954 at the home of Rita’s parents in Clawson.

In 1993 he retired from GM Forge Plant in Detroit. Having had a cottage in Caseville since 1979, he moved there permanently from Clawson in 1993. He was a member of the Pigeon First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Rita; children Thomas of Milwaukee and Colleen (David) Block of Caro; daughter-in-law Glenda of Howell; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; brother David (Sherry) of Gaylord and sister Patricia Schafer of Royal Oak. He was preceded in death by his children Susan, Patrick and Dennis; brother Robert and sister Susan.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Monday at the Pigeon First United Methodist Church with Rev. John Britt officiating.

Visitation will be 3 to 7 pm Sunday at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville and one hour prior to the service in church on Monday. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Pigeon First United Methodist Church.
