Edith Carpenter, age 79, passed away surrounded by the love of her family on Friday, May 14, 2010 at Select Specialty Hospital in Saginaw. Edith was born May 5, 1931 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the daughter of the late Samuel and Allie (Byum) Tadlock. She was united in marriage to John R. Carpenter in January of 1956, and the couple has cherished more than fifty-four years together. Edith found her lifes work in caring for twelve children, running her home and still managing to find time to care for a variety of family pets. She will be remembered as a good southern woman that enjoyed gardening, fishing and going to garage sales. Prior to her illness, she faithfully attended the Harvest Baptist Church in Akron. Edith is survived by her husband, John Carpenter of Caro; eleven children and their spouses, Art & Donna Brinkman of Grayling, Sue Ann Brinkman of Caro, Judy Brinkman of Flint, Danny Lee Croson of Mayville, Joyce & Tim German of Caro, Robert Carpenter of Ubly, Johnnie & Dawn Carpenter of Caro, Betty Johns of Orlando, Florida, Jim Smutek of Vassar, Danny & Jessica Carpenter of Clio and Donny & Adrian Carpenter of Bay City; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by one son, Stanley Brinkman.
