Edith Ewald, age 88, of Unionville, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, February 18, 2024, following a period of declining health. Edith was born on September 3, 1935, in Unionville, to parents, Frank and Elizabeth (Frank) Schuch. She was baptized into Christ as an infant and upon her marriage she was confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She was united in marriage to James Wilbur Ewald on August 6, 1955, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville and has lived her entire life in Unionville. She was first and foremost a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved her role in being there for her family. She was a member of St. Paul Ladies Aid for many years. After her family was grown, she went to work at the Tuscola Extension office and worked there for 10 years, working with the 4-H program. During her lifetime, she and Jim traveled and enjoyed the many friends they met along the way.
Surviving are her husband, James; eight children and their spouses: Joanne (David) Hills of Fairgrove, Cindy (Bernard) Coppolino of Saginaw, Christine (Kenneth) Moore of Saginaw, Mark (Linnaea) Ewald of Unionville, Lynn (Lynda) Ewald of Unionville, Jamie (LizaBeth) Ewald of Midland, Jody (Dale) Smith of Sanford and Kyle (Tracy) Ewald of Hemlock; 19 grandchildren: Nicole & Wayne, Tracey & Jason, Tara & Brian, Laura & Ed, Joseph, Michael, Kenneth, Jr. & Isabel, Kevin & Alyssa, Samantha & fiance' Mike, Stacie, Nathan & Amanda, Chelsey & Seth, Ashley, Haley, Hayden & Lauren, Dustin & Missy, Courtney & Robert, Cody & Natalie, and Kennedy; 24 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Edith was preceded in death by her parents, in-laws, Loren & Grace Ewald, and brothers: Adam, Peter, Joseph, John and Frank.
Visitation is Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Juengel-Mellendorf Funeral Home in Sebewaing from 4pm-8pm.
The funeral service is Friday, February 23, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Unionville. Visitation at the church at 10 am until time of service at 11am. Pastor Steven Stolarczyk will be officiating. Burial will be at Demorest Cemetery in Akron Township.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
