Edith Swartzendruber, age 88, passed away at Home Sweet Home Assisted Living in Pigeon on Sunday, September 8, 2013.
She was born in Thurman, Colorado, on August 16, 1925 daughter of the late Aaron and Catherine (Schwartzentruber) Ruby, and attended the Cactus Hill and Capital Hill schools. On May 20, 1950 she was united in marriage to Leon W. Swartzendruber in Pigeon. Edith and Leon had been married for over 62 years when Leon passed away on November 4, 2012.
Edith was a faithful member of Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church in Pigeon and was the custodian for the First United Methodist Church, Pigeon for many years. She especially loved spending time with her family. Edith was a homemaker throughout her lifetime, enjoying baking and canning Leon's garden vegetables.
She is survived by three children, Ronald (Sara) of Pigeon, Evelyn (John) Weier of Freeman, South Dakota, and Roger (Kristina) of Caseville; eight grandchildren: Mollie, Aaron, Marshall, Kyle, Katie, Nathan, Emily, and Rachel; ten great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Dorothy Ruby of Albany, Oregon and Elaine (Duane) Ropp and Helen Ruby both of Pigeon; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Emma Riemenschneider and Marie Ruby, and two brothers, Walt and Joe Ruby.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Michigan Avenue Mennonite Church, with Rev. Scot Wilson, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer that memorials may be made to Michigan Avenue Church, Gideons International, or Heartland Hospice.
