Edna Lillian Diebel, age 87 of Pigeon, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at Scheurer Hospital in Pigeon.
Born in Detroit on January 20, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Charles C. and Edna M. (Tyrrell) Burk. She was a 1942 graduate of Lincoln High School in Ferndale. On November 20, 1943 she was united in marriage to Clayton O. Diebel of Pigeon at her parents home in Ferndale. He preceded her in death on January 26, 2003.
Edna was a secretary at Peace Lutheran Church in Southfield, retiring in 1981. After moving to Huron County, she and her husband became members of the Pigeon Historical Society. Edna also worked with the Pigeon Food Pantry, and was honored in 2008 as a Paul Harris Fellow by the Pigeon Rotary Club for her charitable efforts. She was a member of Cross Lutheran Church, Pigeon.
She is survived by three children, Audrey (Ray) McMullen of Petoskey, George (June) Diebel of Royal Oak, and Alice Diebel of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Christen Diebel and three sisters, Hazel Silverthorn, Irene McNitt, and Alma Potts.
The Funeral Service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2011 at the Meyersieck-Bussema Funeral Home, Pigeon, with Rev. Timothy Loehrke officiating. Cremation will follow, and burial will take place in the Cross Lutheran Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Cross Lutheran Church or School, the Pigeon Food Pantry, or the Pigeon Historical Society.
