Edward Bennick

Edward J. Bennick, age 92, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2011 at his Wells Township home, following a lingering illness. He was born June 20, 1918 on the same family farm where he passed away, the son of the late Michael & Antoinette (Kapusta) Beniuk and was a lifelong area resident. Ed was united in marriage with the former Angeline M. Cottrell on July 8, 1944 in Caro. She preceded him in death on May 14, 1989. Ed was first employed at the age of sixteen by the W. A. Forbes Lumber Company for twenty-one years. He spent the next thirty-four years as a machinist with Universal Engineering in Frankenmuth, retiring in 1987. Ed farmed his entire life, and devoted countless hours to his familys fields, a hobby he thoroughly enjoyed. He will be remembered for his collection of tractors, large and small, red or green. He also sold and delivered fertilizer throughout the Thumb for a period of time in the 1960s. Ed was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Caro, the Knights of Columbus Council #3224 and the Polish American Club. Left to cherish his memory are thirteen children and their spouses, Margaret Verduyn of Rochester Hills, Mary Bradish of Bloomfield Hills, Janet Wright of Mason, Elaine & Dale Robinson of Saginaw, John & Jeanie Bennick of Higgins Lake, Steve & Donna Bennick of Caro, Angie Bennick and her fiance, Duane, of Ann Arbor, Sharron & Mike Slachta of Springfield, Virginia, Jim Bennick of Ann Arbor, Ken Bennick of Saginaw, Ed & Carla Bennick of Grand Haven, Mick & Ruth Bennick of Holt, Suzie & Roger Benson of Dundee; 21 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; one brother, Peter Bennick of Mayville; two brothers-in-law, Francis and his wife Dorothy Cottrell of Caro, Ted Stanislawski of Caro and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Ed was preceded in death by three brothers, Walter, Steve and Paul Bennick; four sisters, Anna Brigham, Helen Maciejewski, Rose Stanislawski, Mary Nowakowski; a son-in-law, Ron Verduyn; a daughter-in-law, Kris Bennick and several nieces and nephews.
