Edward “Eddie” John LaJoie of Caro, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 7, 2025 at United Hospice Service of Marlette Regional Hospital. He was born October 29, 1930 in Caro, the son of the late Raymond and Ellen (Walsh) LaJoie. He attended Caro schools and enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1952, proudly serving in the Korean War. Eddie married the former Leah Piske on January 15, 1955 in Caro. Their marriage was blessed with seventeen wonderful years, three children, Wade, Noel, and Brent, and many cherished memories. Sadly, Leah passed away on October 10, 1972 in a car accident. In time, Eddie found love again with Peggy Henry. They married on October 19, 1974, at the Watrousville United Methodist Church, celebrating fifty years of marriage in October 2024. Their life together was blessed with two more daughters, Dena and Tonia, and filled with love and joy.
Eddie was the proud owner and operator of Eddie LaJoie & Sons, a business he ran until his retirement in 2005. He had a passion for heavy equipment, especially the drag line, and loved reminiscing about his work. Eddie enjoyed taking long drives through the countryside, often pointing out the ponds he had helped create, and by the fairgrounds. A longtime member of the Rocking 8’s Square Dance team, Eddie and Peggy shared many enjoyable years dancing together. He was also an avid camper, spending many nights around a campfire telling stories, talking, and enjoying the company of his family. Known for his easy-going nature and infectious smile, Eddie found joy in giving rides to his children and grandchildren on the bulldozer or in the bucket of the drag line. Those moments, filled with laughter and excitement, were some of his greatest pleasures. Eddie’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever live on in the hearts of his family.
Eddie leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Peggy; children. Wade & Cheryl LaJoie of Ohio, Noel LaJoie of Caro, Brent LaJoie of Caro, Dena & Eric Fellows of Cass City, and Tonia & Doug McQueen of Cass City; grandchildren, Chad LaJoie, LaShae (Adam) Walker, Leah (Bill) Cramer, Brandy Mahan (Mike), Joslynn (Shane) West, Brent LaJoie (Brandi), Damien Fellows, and Ethan Fellows; many great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Asay, Robert (Maxine) LaJoie, and Esther (John L.) Smith; sister-in-law, Beverly LaJoie; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Rosie. In addition to his parents and first wife, Leah, Eddie was preceded in death by his in-laws, John and Emily Piske and Stanley and Geraldine Henry; son-in-law, Lynn Miller; siblings, Walter LaJoie, Margaret (Chet) Kemp; Bernice Bashton, Thomas LaJoie, Elaine (Ray) Phillips, George LaJoie, Donald (Barbara) LaJoie, Charles LaJoie, and Roseanna Froede; brother-in-law, Daryl Asay.
