Edward Elmy of Caro, age 70, passed away suddenly at his home on Wednesday, January 10, 2024. Ed was born June 27, 1953 in Caro, the son of the late Edward and Dorothy (Sutherland) Elmy. Ed graduated from Caro High School with the class of 1971 and went on to work as a transport driver. Through the years, he dedicated his efforts to various companies, such as Empiregas, Wilkinson Chemical, Russell Transport, Cass Valley Enterprises, and Tuscola Behavioral Health Systems until his retirement in 2015. Ed found immense joy in outdoor activities, such as hunting, fishing, boating, and camping. Together with his wife, he delighted in showcasing their Mercury Bobcat at car shows and crafting wooden eagles and squirrel feeders to take to craft shows. A social spirit, Ed loved to joke with people and spend time playing cards with friends and family. He was a long-time member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro, and he looked forward to his monthly J.O.Y. trips with friends from church. Most of Ed’s meals were accompanied by jalapenos, and he diligently canned countless pints of homegrown vegetables from his garden every year. Ed was a true animal lover, having had many dogs over the years, and most recently caring for several cats. His warm, jovial nature and penchant for humor made him a delightful presence, and he will be missed dearly by all those who knew him.
Left to cherish Ed’s memory are his loving wife of thirty-seven years, Karen Elmy of Caro; children, Steven & Shantele Elmy of Midland, Diana & Adam Kollman of Fenton, and Melissa & Matt Osborne of Caro; step-children, Jeffrey & Angela Roach of Pontiac, and Cheryl & Gabe Sanger of Caro; ten grandchildren; sisters, Edna & Arnold Sattelberg of Caro, and Bonnie Elmy of Caro; brother-in-law, Earl & Marlys Fischer of Marlette; a niece and four nephews; and many cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Caro with Rev. Cameron Steele officiating. Burial will follow at Indianfields Township Cemetery in Caro.
