Edward Louis Gilbert

Edward Louis Gilbert, age 72, of Caseville, died Friday, June 29, 2007 at the Huron Medical Care Facility in Bad Axe after a long illness.

Ed was born January 16, 1935 in Detroit to the late Louis and Rosemary (DuChamps) Gilbert. On June 19, 1970 he married Doris Ayotte of Detroit in Bad Axe.

He was employed by General Motors for 33 years as an executive driver, retiring in 1986. After retirement he moved permanently to Caseville. He was a proud and active 25 year member of the Caseville Eagles #3690 FOE, where he served many years as trustee and entertainment director. He was also a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus #8042.

He is survived by his wife Doris; children Cindy (Tim) Martin of North Carolina, Donna Stafford of North Carolina, Carey (Veronica) Gilbert of Nebraska, Lois (Owen) Gray of North Carolina, Rosemary (Robert) Bowers of North Carolina, Cathy Chavez of Delaware, David Ayotte of Delaware, Marie Glenday of Macomb, and Joseph (Ann) Ayotte of Virginia; 17 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; and sisters Lois Gilbert and Rosemary Roth.

He was preceded in death by his son Henry Ayotte and sister Doris Morris.

Funeral services consisting of an Eagles Ritual followed by a Scripture Service will begin at 3:00 PM Tuesday, July 3, 2007 at the Champagne Funeral Chapel of Caseville.

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service at 3:00 PM Tuesday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the John MacDonald Scholarship Fund or the charity of the donor’s choice.
