Edward Arthur Ketterer Sr

April 19, 1928 — November 4, 2024

Sand Point

Edward Arthur Ketterer Sr, 96, of Sand Point, passed away on November 4, 2024, at home under hospice care.

Edward was born on April 19, 1928 in Detroit to the late Alfred and Mary (Stenton) Ketterer. He attended Detroit Southeastern High School and served in the U.S. Army.

Edward married his soul mate, Barbara Helen Smith on September 20, 1952. They were blessed with over 70 years of a happy marriage. Ed was a proud, hard working man with a smile and story or joke anywhere he went. He was a grateful man who enjoyed his long and storied life right to the end. He was a gifted athlete, playing competitive fast pitch softball as a catcher. He was named to the All World team in 1953, and was voted catcher of the year. He credited his ball playing to his meeting Barbara, and to his career at General Motors Styling/Design as a paint engineer, and he always said he never worked a day in his life...that’s how much he loved his job. After retirement, he and Barb moved from Warren to Caseville where he enjoyed his retirement golfing (rarely using a cart into his early 90’s), boating, woodworking and making numerous friends.

Ed is preceded in death by his loving wife Barbara (his “Butch”) on May 31, 2023, his parents, brothers James, Ronald and Paul (Anita). Left to cherish his memory are his children Terrence Ketterer Sr., Debra (David) James, Cheryl Nadrowski (the late Mark Maddy), Edward (Sherry) Ketterer Jr., Keith (Laurie) Ketterer; his grandchildren Clarence (Arianne), Terrence Jr., Tim (Jillian), John (Kaitlyn), Collin (Yasuko), Nathan (Allison), Leah (Eric), Brandon (Lexie) Andrew (Josie), Justin (Katie), Jordan (Amanda), Dana, and Anthony; 21 great-grandchildren; Cindy Ketterer, Steve Nadrowski, sister-in-law Patricia (Rick) Alagna, brother-in-law Michael Baltosiewich, many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Funeral services will be at Noon Friday, November 8th at the Champagne Funeral Chapel in Pigeon with Rev. Karen Bouverette officiating.  Burial will be in Caseville Twp Cemetery.  Visitation will begin at 10:00am Friday and continue until the time of the service.

The family wishes to thank A&D Hospice, especially Heather and his family physician Dr. Reiter, who kept him going strong! Memorials may be made to A&D Hospice or Scheurer Health Foundation.
